Papercraft Final!
This project has finally come to fruition! This was really exciting to do and I had a lot of fun working with the paper I picked out, and the little extra details I added.
From the prototype to now, here are the changes that have been made, taking into account critiques from last week:
-legs now sit flush to body, thanks to boolean union
-I added more details like eyes, nose, mouth, a belly, and a sun decoration.
-arms have been made smaller so it sits better on the bear
Onto the process:
Here is what the new leg pattern looks like- prior to making it 2D. It wasn't very hard to figure out, and actually kind of fun to fold out. Now one end has a slant that very easily sticks to the body.
Here is my set up: My trusty cutting board, scalpel, glue, and my patterned paper. As you can see, I messed up on a cut here, so I had to make some very tiny precision cuts to clean it up. The eyes I added to the pattern are also present!
Putting the body together. The lines on the inside were very helpful in the long run, and helped me keep folds straight. You can also see the tummy patch, which I formed to the bears body with a fold.
Overall, this part of the process wasn't very difficult. I think my pattern is pretty easy to follow and making the pieces went really fast.
Here are two renders:
Annd my patterns:
I think it turned out very cute! The glitter in the eyes shows up much more nicer in person, on camera it does catch the light oddly. Personally I think the different patterns help to bring out that playful look I was looking for. Being a childhood toy, its now really faded and pretty beaten up, so to put more life into it seemed appropriate. He definitely will be my new desk buddy.
Finally, I found the bear he is based on. I did this off memory, but I think I did pretty well representing him:
He's not even yellow anymore, poor guy.
Overall I had a lot of fun with this project, and I want to do more paper objects like this in the future. It's a very interesting process and bringing something from 2D into the 3D world has been very exciting to work on!
