Papercraft ₍˄·͈༝·͈˄₎◞ ̑̑ೃ࿔

Papercraft art is quite simple- it's just objects or art made from paper, of course. However it's insane how intricate the detail can get on what seems like a straightforward task!

Hari and Deepti's art especially intrigues me, because of how it depicts entire landscapes and scenes. From what I can tell first off, the scenes are comprised from many layers of paper, and the layers keep paper more opaque or more translucent. They also poke holes in the very back layers, the most translucent, to create an effect of little lights or stars in the sky of their scenes. The details are small, precise, and immaculate. It's almost hard to wrap your head around how far they push the detail. The result is something precise, yet still flowy and playful. It's a fascinating play of elements.

On their official website, they speak about the nature of their craft. “Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium. It demands the attention of the artist while it provides the softness they need to mold it in to something beautiful. It is playful, light, colorless and colorful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes the artist through a journey with limitless possibilities.” They used to work with coloured paper, though as they kept creating their style became more and more simplistic and they only used white paper. This speaks to the 'brutal simplicity' that they always keep in mind when creating their works. It seems it toes the line of being minimalistic yet intricate at the same time.

I selected these artists to write about because a big aspect of their art is storytelling- which is something I'm also passionate about. In all their crafts, you can think of a million stories to attach to it. It feels like you are looking into a storybook, one that is in motion rather then it's usual flat illustrations. I also am a big fan of things that seem simplistic but actually are filled with little details, almost like a treasure trove of ideas. In my own art I like to keep things easy to look at, but with out sacrificing important subtle detail. Hari and Deepti have mastered this way of approaching art, in my opinion. Their artwork brings so much wonder and interest, even when its off!
