10 Object Mashup ≧◉◡◉≦

For this project, we combined at least 2 pre-existing objects into a new one, with assets from Thingaverse. Here are some of mine! I am sad to say that I leaned heavily into puns for many of them, while others I simply was eager to make something cool or absolutely cursed.👋≧◉ᴥ◉≦ All the objects I used are linked within the description.

These objects are part of a response to 'remix culture'. Remix culture has become more and more prevalent as technology has become more and more diverse. It is the consumers reaction to what the producers create- and also an instance of the consumers becoming producers. Mass production tech also helped this community. CDs can be burned onto, Cassettes loaded with your personal favorite songs- companies no longer have the final say of what their product ends up being (at least until copyright infringement comes into play). Anything can be remixed, from songs, to art, even video games can be modded and completely transformed into a new product. Remix culture is essentially people taking things into their own hands to make something new from things that already exist.

mash up one: CATV

its a cat, it's a TV- it's a CATV. Honestly I was most inspired by those mini 'computers' seen everywhere online from Amazon. The chunky, retro design was calling to me. So when I saw this cat on Thingaverse, I combined it with this TV model to make the CATV!

mash up two: Handsy Lamp

Not quite sure what was running through my mind while making this- probably nothing good. I think it's creepy but elegant. You have to hold this creatures hand for it to light up, I believe. I combined these two objects together because I was going for something sort of unnerving, by combining something so normal as a lamp with human hands.

♡mash up three: The cute-a-pult♡

I really liked this one because of its contrast as well as the pun (or is it just squishing words together?). I took a happy little planter, then attached a catapult to the top. I'd like to think this could be utilized to passive aggressively spread happiness! Maybe by launching hard candy at people.

♡mash up four: Migrating bird home♡

By combining the top of a helicopter and a birdhouse, I present to you: a bird house for travelling birds. Think of this as the bird version of an RV! Who says birds don't deserve some luxury? I think my line of thought here was simply, if birds fly, shouldn't their homes as well?

♡mash up five: Killer Whale♡

The next machination of warfare: The Killer Whale. Made from this whale, these wheels, and this tank. This is a whale shaped tank, ready to shape the battlefield. Besides being purely pun driven, I also thought it was weird to combine something brash like a tank and something large and peaceful like a whale. I guess I like working in opposites. I think this is my greatest creation.

♡mash up six: Baba Yaga House♡

This house, these mushrooms, and these lovely legs make up my baba yaga house! Inspired by Howl's Moving Castle as well as the European folktale of a frankly terrifying old woman that eats children, I was more then happy to mash legs onto a house. It would be nice for going on vacation, to not have to pay for hotels or even parking. You wouldn't even have to pack. This is one of my favourites.

♡mash up seven: The Anti-Night Light♡
I was honestly trying to make some sort of cute night light apparatus, but something horrible happened and we end up with this...thing. I can't look into it's eyes for too long. Since it ended up so terrifying, I'm calling it the anti-night-light. Instead of helping kids fall asleep, it gives them a deep feeling of wrong and terror to keep them awake. Useful when you need to pull an all-nighter. I used this fella, and this lightbulb for this abomination.

mash up eight: Grave Boat♡

Instead of gravy boat, we have the Grave Boat. I thought these two objects oddly fit really well together, with barely any adjustments. I suppose this could be nice if you were a gothic individual wanting to get outdoors. Or maybe this boat is just destined to sink- but, there's no need to buy a casket, because it comes with it. Dark jokes aside, I really like the aesthetic of this one. And again, I combined these objects because I liked the contrast between them- one of action and the other of inaction. I used this boat and this coffin!

mash up nine: Toothy Throne

This was purely for aesthetics. I thought it would be cool to try and create a harrowing throne. It was my first thought when I found this jaw bone. I found this skull to fashion a top part, since it looked a little empty. Then finally, I added the throne so it wasn't just a stitched together skull. Perhaps it is a necromancers throne. Either way I really like how this one turned out.

mash up ten: Sheat
This was my obligatory animal mash up. I thought of this in terms of it being a stuffed animal: and what animals could be combined into the ultimate stuffed animal. My conclusion was mashing together a cat and a sheep. The sheep for it's obvious softness and possible use as a pillow, and a cat because cats are superior to all living organisms. Plus they are cute. This was probably the most fun, Frankenstein-ing them together. Here is the cat I used, and the sheep I used.
